Easter egg hunt at Christopher's >>
24 March 2009During Easter CHASE is holding two Easter egg hunts as part of the annual 'sensory days'.
Each year CHASE holds multi sensory days that encourage children and families to have fun in a stimulating environment.
These aid communication with life-limited children and teenagers, who often have visual, hearing or other sensory impairments, and helps to create valuable memories for the future.
Multi Sensory Environments
Research studies have suggested that Multi-sensory Environments reduce anxiety and relieve stress.
Multi Sensory Environments can become an oasis of calm, diverting focus away from pain, reducing anxiety, decreasing stress, and allowing families continued opportunities to share memories and experiences together. *
Multi Sensory Experiences at CHASE
In the multi-sensory room, variable patterns of light, sound and even smell are used to stimulate or calm a troubled child.
There is also a sensory courtyard at the centre of the building, where there are surfaces to touch, herbs and plants to smell, and the sound of running water and wind-chimes to listen to.
The Easter egg hunts coincide with the launch of the brand new sensory garden which has been project-managed free of charge by local construction company Alterspace.
The new features include fibreoptic lighting, a large stainless steel gazing ball, outdoor musical instruments including drums and chimes, tactile seating cubes, stone roses tactile sculptures and butterflies that move in the wind and reflect the light!
These have been donated by the Armitage family who has been supported by the CHASE care service. Iain Armitage also organised a London to Paris Bike Ride, which raised £230,000 for CHASE over the last three years!
